November 7: Sunset Skating
Well, we’re back to the season of early sunsets, and nasty rain. Roller skating out doors is not going to be possible (much) over the few months, unfortunately. But, that’s why there’s Raw Meat! Want to keep your skating sharp over the winter, or learn to skate so that you can tackle the seawall and the derby track next summer? Then come join us.
If you are a beginner, you’ll learn all the WFTDA basic roller skating skills that you’ll need to try out for a roller derby league next year. If you are not interested in derby, that’s ok! These are the same skills you’ll need to skate safely outside, and dodge stray tourists and those lethal little dogs on invisible leashes on the sea wall. Skills you’ll learn include: plow stops, t-stops, skating form, skating with others, pace lines, jumping, transitions, agility, backwards skating, walking on toestops, and much, much more!
If you are an expert, come visit just to have some fun! Polish your skills in a relaxed, non-contact atmosphere. Plus, you know you want to come play tag, don’t you?
Raw Meat Roller Skating meets from 5-7 pm every Saturday at Thunderbird Community Centre at 2311 Cassiar St.
Sessions are $7, and you must have your own gear. You’ll need: roller skates, a helmet, a mouth guard, and wrist, elbow and knee pads. Gear can be rented from Rollergirl, at 11th and Main, so there’s no excuse for not giving it a try!
You must have white or light toe stoppers, and put vertical strips of white tape on black knee pads, to avoid marking the floors.
Our sessions are always non-contact, and we just have two rules: 1. Be safe. 2. Don’t be an ass-hat.
See you Saturday!
