What then? poor skater, thou’ll nae fail!
A fall or two, even three,
‘S a sma’ occurance;
You’ll learn a ta fall and rise again,
An’ skate with great assurance!
This Saturday, don your kilt, strap on your sporran, and come celebrate (almost) Robbie Burn’s Day at Raw Meat Roller Skating. Just be sure to save the wee dram for after the session, because we have a very special treat for you. No, it’s not haggis. It’s one of the world’s best roller skaters and roller derby coaches: Luludemon. Whether she’s skating with the TCRG All-Stars or Team Canada Roller Derby, or coaching with Camp Pivotstar, no one knows more about roller derby that she does. Be sure to join us for this special opportunity!
What to expect at Raw Meat Roller Skating
We teach roller-derby style roller skating in a fun, non-contact, non-competitive atmosphere. Whether you just want to learn to skate, or you are a top derby player looking for a little more time on skates, we’d love to see you! We’ll cover roller skating basics like falling safely, how to stop, how to skate with agility, how to get faster, how to jump, and lots more. There’s always a range of skating skills in the group, so feel free to modify skills (easier or hard) as you need. We’ll also introduce basic roller derby strategy and drills, so you’ll have a solid foundation of the basics if you decide to join a league one day.
What to bring to Raw Meat Roller Skating
All skaters must have roller skates, helmet, mouth guard, and wrist, elbow and knee pads. You must have white or light coloured toe stops, in order to avoid marking the floor. Also, please cover black knee pads with vertical strips of white tape, or securely cover them with socks or felt. Whatever you cover them with, make sure you can still slide on them.
If you don’t have gear yet, but you want to check out whether roller derby is for you, equipment can be rented from Rollergirl, on 11th at Main St.
Sessions are $7, and exact change is appreciated.
Our rules
We just have two rules: 1. Be safe, 2. Don’t be an ass-hat.
