Make Good on Your New Year’s Resolution: Learn to Roller Skate
Alright, we’re almost three weeks into 2011. On New Year’s Eve, did you resolve to:
1. Get fit/lose weight?
2. Meet new people?
3. Have more fun?
4. Try new things?
5. Reduce stress?
6. Be more awesome?
How are those resolutions coming along for you?
If you haven’t started yet or started and gave up, it’s time to put on your big-girl panties and cowgirl up. Get yourself to Raw Meat Vancouver, learn roller skating and roller derby skills, get fit, bust stress, meet new people, and generally increase the quantity of awesome in your life.
Join Raw Meat Vancouver every Saturday from 5PM to 7PM at Thunderbird Community Centre, 2311 Cassiar St. (near Rupert Skytrain Station). Sessions are $7, and full safety gear is required. You must use white or light toe stoppers, and tape your knee pads with white or light tape. This protects the floor at the venue.
All levels of roller skater are welcome, from complete beginner to derby champion. Each session presents a variety of roller skating/roller derby drills, including but not limited to:
- Stopping
- Agility (jumps, skating around cones, crab-walks, etc.)
- Proximity (skating close to other skaters)
- Transitions
- Backwards skating
- Fitness
- Whips
- And more
You won’t believe how fast you will improve, and how much fun you will have. If you have more questions, check out our FAQs. If you are a complete beginner, check out our advice for newbies (who, henceforth, shall be known as “lambs”).
C’mon, Ladies. You know you want to. I’ll see you Saturday.
